Floodlighting and Electrical completes standout architectural lighting installation at Mermaid Quay, Cardiff Bay
Floodlighting and Electrical Services is pleased to announce the successful completion of a new architectural lighting scheme at Mermaid Quay Car Park in Cardiff Bay, delivered in collaboration with lighting specialists LITE Ltd.
The project was designed to enhance the visual presence of the car park after dark, improving the arrival experience for visitors while respecting and highlighting the building’s distinctive architectural form. Working closely with LITE Ltd, Floodlighting and Electrical was responsible for developing and delivering a practical installation solution to bring the design vision to life on site.
LITE Ltd provided the lighting design, luminaires, and PHAROS colour control system, enabling a dynamic and flexible scheme capable of supporting both everyday illumination and bespoke lighting scenes for events, celebrations, and seasonal displays.
A key technical challenge was the integration of the lighting system within the building’s fluted aluminium façade panels. These features are a defining element of the structure’s exterior, requiring a highly considered installation approach to ensure all lighting infrastructure remained discreet and visually unobtrusive. Through detailed coordination and careful on-site execution, the team successfully embedded the system within the architectural fabric without compromising the clean lines and finish of the building.
The completed installation delivers a striking yet sensitive lighting effect, enhancing the building’s nighttime identity and creating a more welcoming environment within Cardiff Bay. The result is a balance of aesthetic impact and technical precision, demonstrating how thoughtful lighting design and skilled installation can transform a functional structure into a visually engaging landmark.
