1. When and where the lights will turn on 


Although there will be no lights ceremony this year the Christmas lights across the entire city centre will be switched on and commence the festive season on November 12th. The lights will span their usual routes as well as their traditional spot outside and around Cardiff Castle. 

2. The types of lights on display 


In previous years, rope lighting with tens of thousands of individual golf-ball lamps which required regular maintenance were used for the Cardiff Christmas lights. To ensure we provide the festive shoppers and visitors the best Christmas lights we have created new lighting solutions, Floodlighting and Electrical have evolved along with technological advances to LED lights which have greater longevity, brightness, and are energy efficiency. 

These new lights consist of over one million LED lights which will span over twenty-five streets, with the longest running at 1km being installed on St Marys Street and High Street.

Christmas At Bute Park 


Christmas At Bute Park will be running from November 25th to December 31st. Hosting a larger-than-life light display, including interactive installations, a flickering fire area, an enchanting fairy tree forest, laser shows and mirror balls, as well as locally-sourced street food, mulled wine, and plenty more Christmas festivities. 

The enchanting walk is 1.4km long and takes around 1 hour to complete with time slots starting from 4:30pm to 8:00pm. Tickets cost £18 for adults, £13 for children aged 3-15, and under 3’s are free, a family ticket for two adults and two children is £55, you can book tickets now on their website. 

Christmas Markets 


The Cardiff Christmas markets are a long-lasting staple of the Christmas season, and there is always something for everyone, from arts and crafts to food and drink and even Christmas gifts the markets have it all. 

Visit Cardiff assure that ‘unlike the Christmas Markets you may find in other cities when you visit Cardiff, you can be assured that you will be purchasing original work from each and every one of our talented makers’. 

The Cardiff Christmas markets will be running from November 11th to December 23rd, in plenty of time to see the best Christmas lights in Cardiff and get all your Christmas shopping done too. 

Winter Wonderland 


Finally, one of the most anticipated attractions during Christmas time returns for another year – Winter Wonderland. Combining their usual location outside City Hall and last year's location outside Cardiff Castle, Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland is bigger than ever. 

The castle will hold the undercover ice rink and a magical 150m ice walk, and City Hall will be home to food and drink stalls and bars, as well as the famous Giant Wheel and other fairground fun. Book your tickets for the ice rink on the Visit Cardiff website.
